The purpose of this training was to learn to make a hydrant connection quickly and safely. In a fire situation, firefighters in a burning building are placed at risk, should their water supply run out. The firefighters were learning how quickly a water supply is needed during a fire attack. The engine crew was instructed to rapidly deploy two lines and flow water as if they were attacking a working structure fire. The engineer and hydrant person had to supply the water to the two handlines before the engine tank went dry. Each crew was successful in this training, in that despite the flow of 400 gallons per minute and the attack crews rapid attack, the tank of 1000 gallons of water the engine carried never ran out.
