The Somers Fire and Rescue Department joined other area departments over Labor Day weekend to raise money for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).

This was the third year the Somers Fire and Rescue Department took part in the MDA Fill The Boot campaign and once again the amount raised went up. Our crews raised more than $5,000 at the two intersections (22nd Avenue and Highway E and Highways S and 142) they were stationed at on Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Somers Fire and Rescue was mentioned, along with other departments, in a recap article about the event in the Kenosha News on  September. 10, 2009.

For the second year in a row, this event was chaired by Lt. Aaron Strom, one of our full-time members of the Somers Fire and Rescue Department and vice president of the Somers Fire and Rescue Association.

He was helped by the following individuals: Assistant Chief John Sorensen, Captain Rob Hamm, Captain Pete Skendziel, and firefighter/EMTs Francis Collins, Brian Willenbring, Alex Kohne, Ben Andersen, Nick Andreoli, Mike Nikolai, Tyler Kirkorian, Justin Marman, Dusty Thorpe, Jonathan Ritzman, Phil Ludlow, Emily Halverson and Chris Braun.
