New Outdoor Burning Ordinance
Highlights of the Ordinance are listed below:

The annual permit requested is for the address on the permit only.

Burning of materials that are prohibited by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (such as rubbish or garbage; waste oil or other oily wastes; asphalt and products containing asphalt; treated or painted wood; plastics; rubber, including tires and synthetic rubber like products; newspaper, corrugated cardboard, container board, office paper, and any other materials that must be recycled in accordance with the recycling ordinance) is not allowed.

Open burning of leaves, brush, clean wood, and other vegetive debris allowed only if done in accordance with the burn ordinance.

Piles of material to be burned are not to exceed 4'x4'x4' unless specifically approved. Open burning should be conducted during daylight hours only.

No fire should be within 25 feet of any building.

Each day, the permit holder must call the information number on the permit prior to burning as to whether burning is permited that day.

Fires must should be constantly and supervised by a competent person of at least 18 years of age. The person should have readily available fire extinguishing equipment to control the fire.

Do not burn if wind speed is above 10 MPH.

Any person utilizing or maintaining an outdoor fire shall be responsible for all fire suppression costs and any other liability resulting from damage caused by the fire. Failure to stay within the provisions of this permit and the burning ordinance may result in fines.

Hours to Obtain Burn Permits
An annual burn permit may be obtained in person at the Somers Town at 7511 - 12th Street between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Original annual permit fee is $25.00.
Annual permit renewal is $15.00.
Yard waste may be burned without a permit from April 15 to May 15, and from October 15 through November 30.
No burn permits will be issued outside of the hours indicated above.
